Message from the Headteacher

Last week, many of you received our acceptable use of technology and the internet agreement to read through and sign with your child. Everyone who uses the school network needs to read and sign this agreement: students, teachers and staff. If you did not receive this form, we already have one on file for your child: this form is sent annually to all our new families and staff. The expectations stated in this agreement are based on responsible and respectful use of technology. In school we help students adhere to these expectations. We also remind and educate students to be responsible and respectful with technology outside of school. This applies to any technology: computers, chromebooks or phones.

There has been a lot of media discussion around the use of phones in school recently. At HHIS we do not currently have a blanket ban of phones in school. However, we do expect that phones are kept in bags during the school day.
Here is a reminder of our guidelines for phones in school:
  • Students may only use phones in lessons with the permission of the teacher.
  • Students should not text or use any form of social media during school hours.
  • Earphones should not be worn around the school campus and may only be used in lessons with teacher permission.
To support us with this, we ask that parents do not contact their children during the school day using mobile phones. Parents should please contact the school office and a message will be shared with your child. Please email hhis.admin@huahinschool.com, Line official or phone +66 32 900632.
As we monitor and limit phone use in school, we appreciate how challenging this can be out of school. It is very difficult to keep up to date with the favoured social media sites of our children. Keeping ourselves informed is sometimes challenging. This website Common Sense Media is very helpful for parents, students and teachers. Some of you might find this page Parenting, Media, and Everything in Between of use.

Students, parents and teachers working together to ensure respectful and responsible use of technology, is the most effective approach in today’s digital age.

Safety Report Update
A full safety audit was undertaken by Performax Building Service Co.Ltd on May 18th 2024.
Summary of major findings:
  1. Glass: It is confirmed that all the glass has been replaced with safety glass and the glazing now exceeds Local Thai and Western Building codes.
  2. Fire Safety: Additional Ionisation-type smoke detectors have been recommended to be installed in windy areas.
  3. Illuminated fire escape signs are recommended to be installed on Buildings 1 and 2 on the 1st Floor, at the top of the stairs.
  4. Playground: uneven settlement of the existing tile flooring. It is recommended to replace the playground surface with a single level material.
  5. Guardrails: Increase the height of any guardrails under 90cm and change any horizontal railing slats to vertical on Buildings 1 and 2.
All recommendations are being addressed by the school.

Reminder: arrival and departure times.
With student safety at the forefront, we would like to remind everyone of the following:
Students are welcome on campus from 8.00am unless they have an authorised activity (for example swim training). All students should be off the campus by 4.45pm, unless they have an authorised activity (for example Black Mountain Football Club).

If you are going to be late to collect your child, please inform the school office. Thank you for your cooperation.

Successful swimmers from this event will be selected to represent Prachuap Khiri Khan province to the national youth sport qualifying round in Saraburi Province in October. Celebrating Student Success
We are delighted to announce that Daniil, Maryam, Mellissa and Jeen have become our Student Ambassadors. Their applications and interviews were excellent and they demonstrated great leadership potential. Their role will be to lead the Secondary Student Council and to ensure the ideas and voice of all our students are heard in new and innovative ways. Student representatives for all our classes are now being organised and we look forward to sharing more details in due course. Very well done again to our Y13 ambassadors and we wish them continued success in their IB studies.
