Message from the Head of School

This week we welcomed visitors from the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO). Dr. Arvind Kumar Chalasani and Mr. Ryan O'Brien visited the school as part of the IB Diploma evaluation process. Every five years, schools who are authorised to teach the IB Diploma, must undertake this evaluation process to make sure the standards and practices of the organisation are being met. The visitors toured our campus, observed lessons and met with members of the HHIS community.

It was a very positive experience and their feedback commended the continued development of our IB Diploma Programme for our students in Year 12 and 13. They were very complimentary about the philosophy and vision of our school, as well as praising the learning and teaching and all the opportunities and guidance provided to help every individual achieve their best. Dr. Arvind and Mr. Ryan also shared praise for our inclusive approach and the positive and welcoming environment at our school.

We share our thanks to all students, teachers and parents involved in the visit and a big thank you again to our guests. Their feedback will be extremely valuable in helping us to continue developing as a school.

Celebrating Student Success

I Value Champions

In January our Primary classes launched our I Value Champion awards. Each month, every class focuses on a specific I Value and students collaborate and recognise their classmates who really demonstrate and embody that value. Our ‘Champions’ are then announced in assemblies to celebrate their great work and our school ethos. Congratulations to our January winners!

Highlights from the week

Puppy Dash Swimming

It’s been another great weekend of swimming for the HHIS Hawks swim team. The Bangkok Prep Puppy Dash is a development swim meet to give younger swimmers experience and confidence in a swimming competition environment. We had great success for our young Hawks with many of our team earning ‘Speeding Tickets’ which means they are officially too fast for this event now! Well done to all of our swimmers and a huge thank you to parents for their support. Go Hawks!

The New Pop-up Project

The “Pop-up Project” is a brand new Year 7 learning opportunity where students will collaborate in teams and refine their critical thinking, communication, research, conflict resolution strategies and decision-making skills. All of this will be achieved as the project teams work towards their collective goal of solving a local, national or global problem. Global citizenship is at the core of this work, and in the coming weeks, the teams will create their own company and work innovatively together. They will need to use their imaginative skills in branding and design, and they are sure to be inspired by the guidance of their IGCSE and IB Business advisors. Our Business Studies students will support our Year 7 teams, as they build up to our exciting next step - The Shark Tank. Everyone is excited about how this project will develop - it is student-led and it has been a tremendous start! Year 7 should feel very proud of their positive approach so far and all the light bulb ideas they have shared already! Well done!!!

Duke of Edinburgh Silver Expedition

On Wednesday morning our Duke of Edinburgh participants demonstrated their intrepid nature as they started their assessed expeditions for their Bronze and Silver awards. The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a fantastic opportunity for our older students as they set their own personal challenges, follow their passions and develop news skills and ideas together. We wish them continued success and we look forward to celebrating their future achievements.

Primary Buddy Bench

Our Primary student council members have been working hard at lunchtimes to prepare and decorate their new buddy bench. The buddy bench is an innovative and imaginative way to ensure all children are included at HHIS. It’s a place for children to go at break times and lunchtimes if they are feeling lonely and would like someone to play with. They can sit on the buddy bench, which signals to other children that they want a friend or some company. This idea was initiated by the student council, and they are getting it ready for our students so we can continue promoting the inclusive and friendly environment at HHIS. A big thank you to Luna, Val, Jasper, Hin, Noah, AJ and Rica for their efforts and wonderful teamwork.
One of our KS3 Bands, 'Daydream Division', has been busy in rehearsals this week. It was great to see our younger students collaborating with Year 12 musicians, where they were guided with instrument techniques, melody lines and rehearsal practice. What better way to spend a lunch time than making music!

Book Collection to Support The Bright Dawn Foundation

In the past month, Elisa and Arissa in Y13 have been leading a project with the aim to bring resources to local schools and communities and support the children who study there. As a school, we have been collecting books and this has also given HHIS students the opportunity to swap the books they have already read for new ones. As a result we have collected 47 books which will now be donated to The Bright Dawn Foundation. Thank you everyone who has participated in our event and a big thank you to Elisa and Arissa.

KS2 Musical Lunchtime Delight!

A huge bravo to our talented KS2 pianists Luna, Ava, Rica, Irina, Anisha, Leo, Kate, Larissa, and Bella for bringing music to life during lunchtime in the canteen. Their intrepid performances turned an ordinary lunch break into a truly special and uplifting experience. The melodies they played created a warm and joyful atmosphere, and it was inspiring to see their confidence as they shared their passion for music with their friends. Performing in front of an audience is no easy task, and they all did an amazing job! Well done, pianists! Keep practicing, keep performing, and most importantly, keep enjoying the magic of music.

Years 5 & 6 Celebration of Learning

This week, our Year 5 & 6 children wrapped up their Sustainable Constructions unit with a fantastic showcase, and we were thrilled to welcome so many parents to celebrate their learning.

The children acted as estate agents, using persuasive techniques to sell their eco-friendly home designs. They confidently explained their use of sustainable materials and energy-saving features, bringing their ideas to life with AI design tools. Their work was closely linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals—Clean Energy (Goal 9), Sustainable Cities (Goal 11), and Climate Action (Goal 13). Parents were impressed by their creativity, thoughtful designs, and compelling brochures and I think quite a few purchases were made!

IGCSE Global Perspectives in Action

Our Year 10 students are busy leading their team projects as part of their IGCSE Global Perspectives studies. This has involved planning, hosting and reflecting upon activities undertaken both at HHIS and across our community. There have been assemblies and workshops hosted with both Secondary and Primary classes to learn together and to share ideas to reduce food waste, to raise awareness for deforestation and also to look at quality education. One of our groups with Mr Jeremy and K Note, visited Wang Bost School, which is supported by the Bright Dawn Foundation. This has helped the team innovate ideas with the teachers at Wang Bost, inspiring a shared classroom decoration project to celebrate our partnership.

Staff & Parent Football

A big thank you to parents who joined us for our first game of 2025 - there were plenty of goals, highlights and laughs as both teams played with courage and good sportsmanship. With a goal from the staff team in the final seconds tying the scoreline, it was our parent team who then won the game via a golden goal to claim victory! It was a well deserved 4-3 win for the parent team and pleasingly everyone left the pitch with smiles and no reported injuries! Well done to everyone who played and thank you to our supporters!
