Message from the Headteacher

At HHIS we provide a broad and balanced curriculum, where all subjects are valued and the arts feature as prominently as the sciences. Art is taught throughout the school from early mark making with our three year olds, up to the talented IB Diploma Visual Arts students. This Monday evening, parents and friends of our graduating year 13 IB Visual Art students attended a stunning Art Exhibition showcasing their final work. In the exhibition were examples of painting, sculpture, film and installation to mention but a few art forms. The IB Art Exhibition is a course requirement, but also a wonderful chance to showcase and celebrate all the hard work of our Year 13 artists over the past year and a half. Congratulations to our 5 graduating Art students of 2024: Yumi, Pear, Fiona, Mew and Ping Ping!

Four of our current Y13 Visual Arts students are continuing along this creative path, with offers from a wide range of art schools and universities.
University of the Arts London presentation
Recently we welcomed Rosie Cumber, from UAL, who gave a presentation on opportunities for students aiming at art and design at university, and on preparing a portfolio. Our art department has a strong reputation for creativity: two of our first cohort of graduating students studied at the university; and so Rosie and the UAL representatives wanted to learn more about HHIS. Given that Rosie is only in Thailand for a few days, it is a testament to the strength of our art department that they came all the way to Hua Hin to meet our students.
UAL is currently ranked number 1 in the world for art and design undergraduate courses, and so it was an exciting opportunity for our students and parents to get first hand information about the university.
Attendance and Punctuality reminder
We have recently reviewed our attendance policy and procedures that are in place not only to monitor attendance, but also to ensure the safety of our students.
We ask that parents/guardians please contact the school to report their child’s absence before 8:30am on the day of the absence. If we do not have a record of authorised absence, a member of our office staff may call home to check on the whereabouts of your child.

We also share a reminder that students should arrive at school by 8:30am so that they can register with their class and participate in the start of day activities.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Highlights from the week!

Year 8 Visit to Phraya Nakhon Cave
On Thursday Year 8 spent a wonderful day at Phraya Nakhon Cave. As part of their learning theme ‘Inspire Me’, students investigated the Physical Geography of the site and spent time sketching a variety of different illustrations. The students were a credit throughout and worked together to overcome the challenges of the hike. Students will continue to investigate their findings in both their Humanities and Art lessons next week. Well done Year 8!

Year 7 Snack Attack and support for Scholars of Sustenance
A big thank you to all our families and students for their support for the Snack Attack Sale hosted on Friday by Year 7. The money raised exceeded 20,000thb. Year 7 have worked incredibly hard in teams to innovate snack ideas and lead the marketing process for their products. They have worked in teams across their subjects and the results of their work have been excellent. The snacks were delicious and the promotion and packaging work was inspired. Well done!
We are also continuing to collect non-perishable food donations to support Scholars of Sustenance (SOS). All items can be brought to school and given to your child’s teacher. All the money raised and food collected will soon be donated to SOS, a wonderful charity that helps families in Hua Hin and across Thailand. You can learn more about their work by clicking here: https://www.scholarsofsustenance.org/sos-thailand
Three Little Pigs visit the Early Years
On Monday, we had some exciting visitors from Pran Por Piang Organic Farm to the Early Years garden - three little pigs! The children enjoyed observing the pigs and learnt some interesting facts about how to care for them and what they like to do. They fed the pigs some breakfast, too. This experience enhanced the children’s learning around our recent focus book, ‘The Three Little Pigs.’
ThaiMUN XI Conference
From 23-25 March, ten of our senior MUN students attended the prestigious ThaiMUN XI conference at Brighton College in Bangkok. The event hosted 529 delegates from schools in Thailand, South Korea, Indonesia, Japan, Cambodia and Nepal. We had four delegates in standard committees (WHO, DISEC, ILO-ECOSOC and UNHRC), four in special committees (USCC, HSC, HSOC and Press Corps), and two committee chairs (WHO and UNHRC). Congratulations to all of our delegates and chairs for their commitment to making a difference and developing their skills of diplomacy and debate. Well done to our delegates Faby, Flo, Keith, Liam, Matthew, Mimi, Rada and Sotsai, and to our chairs Fiona and Leah.

Celebrating staff and student success!

Our HHIS Friday IX participated in a charity football match at Tedsaban 4 Bokham School last Saturday. All the money raised from the matches will be donated to build a new Child Centre for the school.
The team was made up of staff and students: Year 13: Willie, Nathan, Alex and James. Year 12: Sam. Staff: Kru Note, Mr. Chris, Mr. Tam, Mr. Dan and K. Su.
