Message from the Headteacher
|
At HHIS we have an extensive programme of activities that take place outside the normal programme of learning. These include our ECA programme, FOBISIA sports and music events and the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
|
We are proud to announce that we have had our first successful Gold Award completion for the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. Building on her work doing the Bronze and Silver levels of the Award, Leah Wurm had to bring an even more sustained commitment to completing activities in order to fulfil the criteria. For the Sports section she had to build up her endurance by repeatedly doing the 100m swim in shorter times. For the Skills section she worked towards and passed her Grade 7 piano exam. For the Service section Leah volunteered to work in a health clinic and shadowed nurses as they did their rounds, learning how to monitor the temperature and blood pressure of patients, organise resources, making first aid kits, making suture kits and booking appointments.
|
The Expedition is a key element, and the group chose to complete a coastal kayaking journey over the course of four days.

|
An additional task only required at the Gold Award level is the Residential Project. Leah and her peers spent 5 days volunteering to take care of the animals at the Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT). Her assessors complimented Leah on her levels of compassion and care, as well as her hard-working approach to all the activities she worked on. She has proven to be a role model for other students, showing that consistent work towards your goals will allow you to achieve success.

Lost property
The impressive collection of lost property is now laid out on tables by the main gate. We encourage everyone to take a look and reclaim anything that might belong to you. Any uncollected items by the end of the week will be donated to Jungle Aid. Thanks to the Primary Student Council for helping to set this up.

Secondary Student Council
Members of the Secondary Student Council met this week to begin planning their ideas for the Year 6 into Secondary transition day. This is always a really exciting day and a really important experience to help our students prepare for Year 7. The transition day will take place on Monday 17th June for students in 6R and 6T. The Student Council will host a workshop to explain everything about life in Secondary and there will also be games, activities, lessons and quizzes to get Year 6 thinking BIG!

Primary Science Week
The children in our Primary classes enjoyed participating in Science Week with students choosing to focus their learning around an object! Student choices included bouncy balls, lemons, paperclips and candles! It was a great way to celebrate inquisitive and innovative learning across all of our classrooms including the Science Laboratories. It was a particularly spectacular conclusion to the week, with our Year 5 and 6 students hosting an exhibition for their younger peers.
