Message from the Headteacher

As we draw to the end of this academic year, we would like to share our staffing news for the next academic year, saying goodbye to some staff members and welcoming in the new.

At the end of this school year, the following teachers will be leaving HHIS to pursue new professional, personal and family goals: Dawn Jerwood, Emma Fordham, Freya Stickland, Pritpal Panesar and Rob Templeton. We thank these departing teachers for all their contributions to HHIS and wish them all the best for the future. We are also saying good luck to Ms Sarah who will be taking maternity leave next year.

In the following newsletters we will be introducing our new teachers. This week we feature Ms Katie, Ms Jayne and Ms Vicky who will be joining the Primary School.

Jayne Williams

Jayne is joining us as Key Stage 2 Phase Leader and Year 5 teacher. Mr Joe will be moving to take on the Key Stage 1 Phase leader position. Ms Jayne is currently working in an international school in Bangkok and brings with her lots of experience having taught in Japan, the UK, and Saudi Arabia.

Katie O'Farrell

Katie will be joining us to teach one of our Year 6 classes. She studied her Bachelor degree in Primary Education at Leeds Beckett University and began her teaching career in Leeds, England. She loves travelling and has visited the school today on her way home to the UK from her trip to Australia.

Vicky Bartlett

Vicky joins the Primary team as our Learning Support Leader. She will be working across the Primary School to support the learning for all students in our proudly inclusive school. She brings with her 15 years of experience and says she is committed to ensuring that all children have the best possible learning experiences and I’m keen to make the curriculum accessible to all.
We are excited to welcome these talented educators to the team in August.

Highlights from the week

Sports Days

This week saw a fantastic week of sports action for the HHIS community. Tuesday was our Year 1, 2 and 3 Sports Day, which saw our youngest students showing their skills in the Obstacle race, the sack race, the target throw, the tug of war and some running races.
Wednesday was a chance for the Secondary students to compete in their teams at football, basketball, shot put, tug of war and some sprint relays. The Red Team were the overall winners of this year's Secondary event.

Thursday was a chance for the Key Stage 2 students from Year 4, 5 and 6 to enjoy their morning of sports. With football, basketball, tug of war, the bean bag throw and some sprint relays. The Yellow and Green team shared the overall winning podium with a tied first place victory.

A huge well done to all of the students for creating an inclusive environment with a nice level of competition.

Year 9 Art Exhibition

Last Friday afternoon our talented Year 9 students hosted the annual HHIS Art Showcase and Fashion show! This is when our 9’s get to develop an art project of their choice, researching, designing and creating art work either independently or in a team. This Year’s brief was to show how Art can inspire us to be imaginative and intrepid, using all the skills learned to make something truly original and unique. Parents, teachers and Year 7 and 8 students got to enjoy a spectacular fashion show and many artworks and installations on display around the school.
