Message from the Headteacher

The end of the academic year is a time when we look forward to transition and change. Our Year 11 students are in this week for their “taster week” preparing for the IB Diploma and our Year 6 students will be visiting the secondary school in preparation for their move to Year 7 next year. It is a time for transition within the school but also for some, a time for a move elsewhere. With this in mind, this week we would like to share further staffing news for the next academic year. As well as sharing some more of our new teachers who will join us in August, we will be saying goodbye to some staff members.

At the end of this school year, the following teachers will be leaving HHIS to pursue new professional, personal and family goals: Olivia Searles, Jamie King, Dan Cresswell, Juan David De Ara Lopez, Hilary Eyster and Iona Lindsay.

We thank these departing teachers for all their contributions to HHIS and wish them all the best for the future.

Introducing our new teachers

Sara McCosh

After two years in Bangkok, I’m excited to embrace a new chapter in Hua Hin: swapping traffic for trails, and skyscrapers for sea breezes. I’m looking forward to reconnecting with nature and getting back into trail running.”
Shelley Genis
Shelley has a Bachelor degree in Early Childhood studies, and nearly twenty years experience teaching in the UK, Bangkok and Australia.
“As a passionate Early Years Teacher I have a strong commitment to fostering a nurturing and dynamic learning environment for young children. I believe in the power of child- centred learning, where each child’s curiosity, interests, and unique abilities guide their educational journey. Outside of school, I love spending time with my family outdoors, either at the beach or adventuring somewhere making memories.”

Highlights from the week

Year 11 Celebration: A Fun Filled Farewell to Key Stage 4

Year 11 students marked the end of their IGCSE exams in style with a well deserved day of fun in the sun! Spirits were high as they challenged teachers and each other, to tennis matches, friendly rounds of mini golf before taking on the water obstacle course. It was a memorable way to celebrate the close of their Key Stage 4 journey.
Their next steps have already started as they are now enjoying the IB Taster Week, which provides an exciting preview of what lies ahead in Year 12 and 13, as part of Key Stage 5.

Year 8 Art and Science trip

Last week our Year 8 classes traveled to Waghor Aquarium and King Mongkut Science Technology Park to explore and learn more about sea life and science. There were a number of exhibits to enjoy as well as the chance to observe trained scuba divers and staff feeding the large sea creatures at the aquarium. Students also participated in reflective Art activities and everyone particularly enjoyed the chance to use the outdoor gym located near the beach at Ao Manao.

Heart of Africa - learning celebration led by Year 6

A very big well done to Year 6 who showcased their learning based on 'The Heart of Africa'. They performed two fantastic African 'call and response' songs: Che Che Kule and Funga Alafia and shared and discussed their 'Process of Learning' through their individual projects. It was lovely to welcome families to celebrate with us and Year 6 felt very proud of all their hard-work, learning and achievements.

Activities and Entertainment for Year 5 and Year 9

A team of Year 9 students have been planning for this spectacle for a number of months as part of our ECA events planning. It was a big highlight with over 50 students coming together to enjoy quizzes, activities and sports on Friday afternoon. Following this, there was dancing, movies and pizza in the evening. A big well done to our Year 9 event planning team and thank you to our teachers for supporting this opportunity.

HHIS Hawks - King’s College Swim Meet

The HHIS Hawks swim team made a fantastic splash at the recent King’s College Swim Meet, fielding our largest group of swimmers to date — ranging from 6 to 16 years old. It was a proud moment to see such a wide age range representing HHIS with enthusiasm, determination and team spirit.

A special highlight of the day came from our brilliant Under-8 girls relay team, who brought home medals after an impressive performance in the pool. Their hard work and teamwork truly paid off!

From personal bests to first-time competitors bravely taking on the challenge, every swimmer contributed to a memorable and successful event. It was a great day of racing, learning and cheering each other on. We’re incredibly proud of all our swimmers and can’t wait for the next meet! Go Hawks!
