Primary

Our children are taught the skills, knowledge and understanding detailed in the English National Curriculum within the context of inspirational and dynamic topics.

Students learn to take on challenges, be innovative in their problem solving and be inquisitive about the world around them.  They learn that their opinions matter, that  their creativity is valued and that by looking after each other and our world around us, they can make a difference.

Key Stage One Curriculum (Years 1 and 2)

Our Key Stage One curriculum  builds on the Early Years Foundation Stage areas of Learning.

Students learn explicit skills which they then explore through hands-on activities and opportunities.

Learning is organised into  themes.  Each of these themes begins with a ‘wow’ event or challenge to stimulate the children’s interest, imagination and zest to question and be inquisitive. Teachers guide the learning process to ensure that all the skills, knowledge and understanding of all the different subject areas are brought together in a meaningful and purposeful way.

The culmination of the students’ learning from each topic may, for example be a presentation, a model, a powerpoint, a play, a book, a brochure or an exhibition…

Key Stage One students also enjoy sessions with specialist teachers of Physical Education, Music,  Mandarin and Thai.  Thai language is taught as a first language and also separately as a second language.

These are examples of  topic areas that inspire and provide the context for the learning in Years One and Two.

Key Stage Two Curriculum (Year 3 to Year 6)

The learning journey continues in Key Stage 2 as students engage in  more indepth  challenges across the curriculum.

The teaching of explicit skills enables children to apply and develop their learning within the context of meaningful topics.  This themed approach brings the whole learning experience alive and results in a zest for learning, leading to the busy hives of activity that we see everyday in our classrooms.

Each new topic  begins with a ‘wow’ event or challenge to stimulate the children’s curiosity, imagination and eagerness to find out more.  Teachers guide the learning process to ensure that all the skills, knowledge and understanding of full range of different subject areas are brought together in a purposeful manner.

The culmination of the students’ learning from each topic may, for example  be a presentation, a model, a powerpoint, a play, a book, a brochure or an exhibition…

Key Stage Two students also enjoy sessions with specialist teachers of Physical Education, Music,  Mandarin and Thai.  Thai language is taught as a first language and also separately as a second language.  Students have the choice to learn Spanish or Mandarin from Year 3.

These are examples of  topic areas that inspire and provide the context for  learning in Key Stage Two.
